Last night I got to experience an acoustic concert with Kip Moore. While during his other concerts, he will pull out the guitar and play a song or two acoustically, this was an entire set. And it was fantastic.
Playing acoustic really showcases Kip’s voice. The first few songs he played, the audience was pretty quiet. Usually the audience sings along and very loudly to every word, but it was just an ethereal moment to listen to his voice in such isolation. And his voice is so good. After the audience warmed up though, they sang along through the rest of the concert.
This concert was different from previous ones in that the set was meant to be a bar feel, and a close encounter with him. It was more shooting the breeze and talking about the music than just about the performance. Kip shared stories behind songs I hadn’t heard before. The most moving being a deeper connection to the song, “Last Shot” and how it evolved to mean something very different for him than it’s original intention.
Just like the last time, I enjoyed seeing such a varied group of people there. Cute kids clapping along and some elderly ones as well. The night was pure magic (and yes he played “Magic” which I can now confirm is my favorite version). And while I am excited for the new acoustic record to be on vinyl, I really would love to see a live album. The interaction he has with fans during his concerts is so special and I wish we could capture that on an album.
Kip Moore just keeps showing us his talent as an artist and stretches himself to grow through every unfolding. He continuously shares new layers of himself and leaves it out on the stage.
